William Alexander Fraser Mackay, M. St.J, BA, AMS(dip)
William A. F. (Bill) Mackay was born June 17, 1954 at Minneapolis Minnesota. He is the second son of Dr. William B. F. Mackay P Eng., North Star Lodge # 74, R.N.S., Londonderry and Kathleen H. daughter of Leonard Griffith, King Solomon Lodge #17, R.B.C., New Westminster. His Grandfather, Dr. Daniel S. Mackay MD, was a member of Tyrian Youth Lodge No. 45 and a Companion of Maple Leaf Chapter # 15, Glace Bay, Grand Chapter of Halifax, N.S. Yet his family’s commitment towards the Craft continues with his Great Grandfather, Senator William Mackay MD, Deputy Grand Master of Nova Scotia, 1896 and he too was a Companion of Prince of Wales Chapter # 10, Sidney, Grand Chapter of Halifax N.S.
W.Bro. Mackay was initiated into Masonry by the Brethren of NWMP Lodge No. 11 A.F. & A.M. GRS in September 1989 and received his Master Masons degree in November of the same year. He was privileged to be Master of the Lodge in 1995 – 1996. R.Ex.Comp Mackay became a member of Prince of Wales Chapter, # 27, Royal Arch Masons in March, 1991 and received his Royal Arch Degree the following May. In December 1999 was installed as the Chapter’s First Principal (Z) for the ensuing year. Today, R.Ex.Comp Mackay is the Scribe “E” for Prince of Wales Chapter. He became a member of Grand Chapter of Saskatchewan in 2008 as Grand Principal Sojourner and was installed as Grand Third Principal at the 86th Grand Convocation. Bill is also a member of numerous concordant York Rite Masonic bodies such as Wascana Preceptory # 51 Knights Templar, Saskatchewan Council of Cryptic Rite Masons #6, Saskatchewan Conclave #14 - Red Cross of Constantine, and the Order of the High Priesthood.
Upon completion of his post secondary school education, Bill embarked upon a rewarding career working in the field of Historical Museums with emphasis on military cultural properties. Most of Bill’s 32 years in museums was spent at the RCMP Centennial Museum and Mounted Police Heritage Centre. Being in charge of the RCMP Regimental Museum and its official repository of Mounted Police artifacts was Companion Mackay’s greatest accomplishment. As one of Canada’s foremost historical museum, Bill provided an expertise of the highest professional nature to the national and international museum community compatible with legal, ethical and forthright representation within the cultural heritage universe. R.Ex.Comp Bill retired from the RCMP in February, 2008. Today R.Ex.Comp Mackay is working as an independent logistics coordinator with focus on industrial services.
In 1985, Bill married Fannie Yee of Regina. They have two sons, James and William, who are both students at the University of Regina. Both Bill and Fannie agree that their greatest personal achievement together is that they survived the teenage years of their sons.
